Make True Selection/Lasso Tool
Selection/Lasso tool should select only what has been selected rather than a rectangular area.

I second that. The fake lasso is a pain to use.

Wow. Comments from 2013. Is it really that hard to implement this?

But it does already work as you request !

The selection tool currently implemented is not very handy. A lasso tool would be better.

Please improve this ! now to move some text, you have to copy the rectangle, paste it and then delete all the superfluous ... big waste of time

When I select some text it also selects nearby text

I agree, don't like how the selection that I draw does not actually reflect what is being selected. If this was implemented as a feature to try to make selecting faster, we definitely need the option to disable that.

This whould be easy to implement, I don't know whats taking so long
Make a separate rectangle selection tool and make the lasso a real lasso selection tool

This is so important, I can never select a line of text without selecting something from the line above it (like a comma or the dash on an 'f'), because the lasso autosizes to a rectangle always

Offer a true lasso selection capability. Right now the program seems to approximate
Irregular shape with a rectangular box. This leads to selecting items outside of the boundary. -

The current selection tool only allows to select in rectangles despite what the icon suggests.

That would really be a great feature !Even realizing only the first part of Arno's idea would be a big improvement compared to the current selection tool. Especially when using papyrus to create MindMaps

Real lasso selection tool instead of rectangular would be very useful. When I use lasso selection tool, areas which I dont want select always be selected because of rectangular selection.

It would be useful to be able to select multiple lines / shapes / parts of drawings located further away from each other with a single use of selection tool. Now it approximates the shape and selects everything else inside.

Please check out how «lecture notes» work for erasing. It is round, proportional to your finger size not the zoom level, and if you draw a closed shape with your finger it just erases everything within the boundary. Just very intelligent.

This is pretty frustrating that they lasso resolves to a box. I am always selecting things I don't intend!

Currently when you free-shape select objects, a best-fitting selection box is created and used to select objects. This hinders the selection of objects that are close to each other but have complicated interaction, for instance in drawings.
My suggestion would be to have a real free-shape selection of objects, with only the objects selected that are within the original selection, without expanding the selection to the best fitting box.
Furthermore, differentiating between CW and CCW selection might help too, where CW will select *any* vector touched by the free selection, and where CCW will select *only* those that are completely within the free selection.
Finally, having adding and remove capabilities of the selection, just like Photoshop/Illustrator, would be an amazing bonus.
